Living Well Alaska Workshops
Living Well Alaska
South Peninsula Hospital has been offering the Living Well Alaska workshops for community members once or twice a year since 2009. The focus is on learning to stay as healthy and active as possible even when dealing with health conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, obesity, and basically any health condition that requires long term self-management. These fun, interactive workshops were developed by Stanford University and are offered all over the country. In Alaska, training of leaders is through the Department of Health and Social Services and Cooperative Extension.
Homer Medical Center and the Community Education department have now decided to offer the program on an ongoing basis, every 2 months. The six week sessions are currently led by PeggyEllen Kleinleder, RN, CDE, and Michael Tupper, MA. We are excited be able to offer this fun, life changing opportunity. Participants must be living with a long term health condition themselves, or caring for a close family member or friend with a long term health condition. Please consider signing up, maybe with a family member or friend, or just help us spread the word. The cost is $40 for the entire series, and registration is required.
