Medication for Addiction Treatment
MAT or Medication for Addiction Treatment simply means using specific medications along with other support to help treat a person’s substance use disorder.
Addiction is a chronic disease like diabetes or heart disease. MAT medications can treat opioid use disorders and alcohol use disorders in the same way medications are used for other chronic diseases.
Homer Medical Center offers the following FDA-approved medication options, from providers trained in MAT:
- Buprenorphine – also known as Suboxone
- Naltrexone – also known as Revia or Vivitrol
