Community Resource Connect Events in in Homer and Anchor Point.

Community Resource Connect (CRC) is a free, one-day event on Tuesday, January 31st, intended for those who are homeless, at risk of being homeless, or for those in need of extra support for their daily living situation.

Now in its 5th year, and formerly called “Homeless Connect”, CRC offers a one-stop shop for individuals to gather resources, get connected with assistance, and collect necessary supplies. Emergency gear, backpacks, comfort packs, laundry and shower vouchers, food to go, sleeping bags and hygiene kits are but a few of the free supplies to be offered. Over 20 vendors will offer health screenings, information, enrollment to services and more.

Free transportation is offered to and from both locations. In Homer call (907) 399-8008; in Anchor Point call (907) 299-2188.

This one-day event happens on Tuesday January 31st from 11AM-3PM in two locations on the southern kenai peninsula: the SPARC at 600 Sterling Highway in Homer, and the Anchor Point Food Pantry next to the Anchor River Inn Store in Anchor Point. A point in time homeless count and data collection will happen at these events, as part of a nationwide point-in-time homeless count.

This event is sponsored by a group of local, non-profit agencies with help from concerned citizens, and happens in conjunction with the Kenai Peninsula Project Homeless Connect which offers similar events in Soldotna and Seward. More information can be found on the public facebook group Community Resource Connect.

Flu Vaccinations and Nasal Mist Spray.

There’s still time to get your flu shot!

This year’s flu vaccines are very effective – protect yourself, your loved ones and our community today.

Did you know we also offer FluMist nasal spray flu vaccine?

FluMist Quadrivalent is a nasal spray flu vaccine that starts working in the nose and continues to trigger your immune system to help build antibodies against influenza infection in 3 ways: in the nasal passage where flu typically enters the body, in the bloodstream to help circulate antibodies, and in cells to help build resistance to infection.
FluMist may be right for the whole family! FluMist can help protect appropriate children and adults 2-49 years of age – call Homer Medical at (907) 235-8586 for more information.

Happy Thanksgiving from Homer Medical Center!

To celebrate with our loved ones, the clinic will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Friday, November 25th.

Welcome Joe Llenos, MD, to our provider team!

Joe Llenos, MD, board certified in family medicine, is now seeing patients at Homer Medical Center. Dr. Llenos grew up in the Philippines, went to medical school at West Visayas State University, and did his Residency at The Institute for Family Health, New York. He has a particular interest in geriatric care but is ready to help patients of all ages manage chronic illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, and more. His approach is to partner with his patients to set and reach goals to optimize their health through lifestyle changes with the support of medical assistance as needed.

Dr. Llenos and his wife, Cindy, moved to Homer earlier this month from Idaho, where he spent 13 years practicing family medicine.  Healthcare and helping others run in the  family, as Cindy is a nurse, and their son is in his third year of medical school in Ohio. When not caring for others, the family enjoys hiking, mountaineering, climbing, and all things in the great outdoors. Dr. Llenos especially enjoys landscape and night sky photography.  His images emphasize the importance of nature, the night sky, and how important it is to minimize light pollution, as it disrupts biological rhythms. His photography can be seen on Instagram at Ancient_Fog_Photgraphy.  His winning essay on the importance of dark skies is featured in saveastar.net, Astro2021 competition.

Dr. Llenos was impressed with the type of patient care he saw last year during a site visit to SPH and Homer Medical, saying it is a personal approach not offered in larger healthcare systems.

Homer Medical Center is adding new providers to ensure seamless care for our patients in preparation for the transition of Dr. Christy Martinez and Dr. Sarah Roberts to full time inpatient hospital care in October.

Appointments are now being scheduled with Dr. Llenos or any of our providers by calling (907) 235-8586. Information on all of our providers can be found under the Provider Tab above.  New patients are welcome.
