Dr Amen mostly grew up in Idaho and went to college at Idaho State University before attending medical school at North Texas Health Science Center. He is board certified in Family Medicine, having completed a residency at Wright State University, Ohio. He recently transitioned from Active Duty in the Air Force where he was a Chief of Aerospace Medicine. He is now with an Air Force Reserves unit here in Alaska.
Dr Amen hopes to optimize health for people and communities at all stages of life. He believes this is best achieved by partnering with his patients and sharing with them in their healthcare decisions and goals.
Having grown up in small town, he has a heart for practicing medicine in Homer. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and wood work. He and his wife have two little boys whom they are very excited to be raising in rural Alaska.
