Diseases – such as high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol problems – that are with you for a long period of time can have acute flares but usually require a long term plan to control the process. These clinic visits tend to be for a longer period of time and require follow up appointments to check on how effective the treatments have been- whether it is diet, exercise, lifestyle changes or medicines. Scheduling these appointments will often not be as immediate as scheduling an acute care visit.
