Color vision, visual acuity, hearing screens, EKG, spirometry, and x-ray imaging can be conducted as needed. Homer Medical Center can provide testing through SEA-SPEC Consortium for federally-mandated drug programs. Other federally-mandated drug testing will be done through the South Peninsula Hospital lab.

The FAA MedXPress system allows anyone requesting an FAA Medical Clearance, Medical Certificate, or Student Pilot Medical Certificate to electronically complete an application. FAA MedXPress system can be accessed here. A medical examination by a FAA-designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) is required to complete the medical clearance/certification process. Information entered into MedXPress is available to Dr. Bell or to Dr. Wiest, both FAA-designated Aviation Medical Examiners, for review at the time of your medical examination. Please complete the first page of the flight physical form 8500 online, bring a copy of that first page and the confirmation number to your appointment. Dr. Bell or Dr. Wiest will complete the back side of the form at the office visit and print a certificate for the pilot.

The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (National Registry) is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) program. Effective May 21, 2014, commercial vehicle (CMV) drivers can no longer get a valid medical certificate from just any healthcare provider. Instead, CMV driver examinations can only be completed by Certified Medical Examiners (MEs) listed on FMCSA’s National Registry. You will be scheduled with a Homer Medical Center medical examiner who has completed training and successfully passed a test on FMCSA’s physical qualification standards.
